Kanjon park Vrela Mrežnice

Located only 15km from Slunj, the Kanjon park Vrela Mrežnica is a natural thing of reare beauty and a rich offer of a wide range of sport activities- on the water and out of it, such as: absail, free climbing, paintball, rafting, canuing, canyoning, bike riding, trakking, team builing programs, fishing and plenty more...It offers great weekend activites for families, businesses and tourists from all over the world.

The river Mrežnica

Many people who know the rivers of Croatia will say, that Mrežnica deserves a special place among the rivers of the Croatian karst. What makes Mrežnica exceptional, are the 93 travertine waterfalls, which in some places of the flow make little lakes. Their picturesque shapes is what makes them unique, as spring as the river itself.

What is especially interesting for this river is the position of these waterfalls. In the upper flow, from Čića's bridge to the Tržić bridge, in a length of only 5 km, there are 26 waterfalls, and there are as many in the lower flow from Generalski Stol to the place where it flows into Korana, but in a length of 39 km!

Several kilometers downstream the river goes into the narrowest canyon in its entire flow, and it runs through it all the way to Smoljanovića fall and to the bridge in Tounjski Tržić. In this part of only 1,2 km of flow, squeezed in a canyon full of vegetation, carved with white rocks, there are 9 waterfalls. In this part of the river there is a strong spring which brings down the temperature of Mrežnica in summer by 6-7 °C. The influence of this spring can be felt almost 5 km downstream, what is visible by different moss on the falls and the different shape of the falls.

and so the adventure beggins...

SLUNJ is a town in the mountainous part of Croatia, located along the very important north-south route to the Adriatic Sea between Karlovac and the Plitvice Lakes, on the meeting of the rivers Korana and Slunjčica. Another two rivers run along side the town, these are Glina and Mrežnica, both with amazing sights: waterfalls, canyons, caves and much more!
Slunj has historically been called: in archaic
Croatian: Slovin grad, in German: Sluin, and in Hungarian
: Szluin.
An old fortification of the Frankopans, built during the wars against the
Turks, Slunj was first mentioned in the 12th century. The old fort was property of the Frankopan family since the 15th century, joined by an old Franciscan monastery from the same period. In the 16th century the town was ravaged by the Ottoman wars and turned into a military outpost of the Military Frontier
, but by the end of the 17th century the settlement was rebuilt into the Slunj as it exists today.
Slunj is famous for its little waterfalls
and the well-preserved corn mills (dating back to the 18th century) in the picturesque lower part of the town, called Rastoke (referring to the branching of the rivers). The Waterfalls of Slunj (Die Wasserfälle von Slunj) is the title of a late novel by the Austrian writer Heimito von Doderer
which features a climactic sequence set in this locality.
Rastoke is part of the Croatian
municipality of Slunj, very famous for its well-preserved old mills which are still functioning and the picturesque little waterfalls along the Korana and Slunjčica rivers that flow together at this place. The Korana river flows through the Plitvice Lakes National Park before it reaches Slunj.
